IX - 30% Soaked

MUSIC VIDEO for HONG KONG
INDEPENDENT CINEMATIC ROCK BAND IX

The saying "borrowed place, borrowed time" not only illustrates the complexities of lust and love but also the transient nature of Hong Kong. However, much like water, both desire and Hong Kong exist in different forms.

‘30% Soaked’ is a single released by a Hong Kong band named IX. Directed by Jay Ng, played by Kirk Ng, Joey Yuen, and Joseph Ng, the music video of ‘30% Soaked’ illustrates the short encounter between a man and a woman at a bar. The cinematographic shots involve saturated colors, shades, and lights, as well as symbolic images. Throughout the video, the phrase “Borrowed Place; Borrowed Time” is frequently emphasized, not only to portray the complexities of human lust but also the shared sense of insecurity toward time, space, and relationships, among Hongkongers.

(After the song concluded, what ensued was a tranquil scene, a stark departure from the song’s earlier intensity. An aging radio broadcast murmured faintly about a specific location and year. Upon a zinc plate, empty wine glasses awaited cleaning, while an icebox stood prominently at the center, adorned with faint ink traces that read, “Borrowed place, borrowed time.” Alas, this profound phrase couldn’t elude the relentless march of fate and was ultimately washed away by the passage of time. The borrowed place vanished, and the borrowed time slipped through our grasp. Beyond one window, the scenery had undergone a complete transformation, while on the other side, a new era was eagerly embracing its arrival.)
